Standing Back From Advertising Copy
I spent a bit of yesterday (in between marking) working on a little advert we are placing to promote our shiny new degree courses. It is amazing how much time it takes to get the words right. Between us, Warren, David, John and myself must have spent quite a while making sure that it made sense and fitted on the paper (two rather important considerations). It also brought home to me the benefit of walking away from things. A number of times we thought we had it perfect, went away for an hour, came back and instantly managed to improve it. The improvements were not enormous, but noticable. I try to do this with most things that I do nowadays. I reccommend that if you are doing something important you should make sure that you factor in time to step back for a while and then take another look. I'll let you know when the advert goes out so that you can take a look and judge for yourself how successful we were....
