Fun with a New Machine

My new Dell machine has arrived which will be the basis of our new Class Server installation. I like getting new computers to play with. Especially if they are brand new and empty. I've got Server 2003 on the box and I'm just adding Service Pack 1 and all the updates. Then I'm going to pop a couple of Virtual Servers on top to do the actual work. For some reason I quite like installing and configuring software. I think I find the word "Progress" in a progress bar inspiring.....

I like putting new systems together too - although I tend to do self-builds instead of buying whole computers. Just out of interest, why would you run Virtual Servers on top? I'm not familiar with Server 2003.

I want to run an Active Directory server and an application server all on the same box. Virtual Server is the big brother of Virtual PC and lets me do this. And I can back up the server images and get going really quickly if anything bad happens to the systems.

I prefer building myself. I love configuring software (just so long as someone comes along and mucks it up; or gets a dead HDD).
