Are you busy right now?
Are you near a cinema?
Have you seen the Wallace and Gromit movie "The Curse of the Were-Rabbit" yet?
Nope?
Just go. You can thank me later.
This is one wonderful film. I've enjoyed the work of Nick Park since forever, Chicken Run, his previous feature, was OK, but stifled a bit by American involvement (sorry folks over the pond). The thing about the Nick Park humour is that it has it's roots in a particular form of britishness which works best if just left to itself. The really good news is that you get the impression that "Were-Rabit" was a result of the production team being left alone to just do what they do best, which is make excellent films. The film is truly great. Finally we have something from this side of the world to take on the mighty Simpsons in quality of writing, character and presentation. The fact that in the time it took to make "Were Rabbit" there have probably been around 100 Simpsons episodes produced is niether here or there. In terms of quality, I'm going to back Wallace and Gromit every time.
I sat for 80 minutes with a smile on my face, laughing out loud at regular intervals. It is not often that I do that in a film. The plot is good, the dialogue has been voiced by some of the best in the business, and every frame teems with wonderful touches. As I write this I'm trying to think of a film I've enjoyed more than this one. And you know what? I can't.
