Just been to see Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Very exciting and well made. The best thing about this film was that Harry seemed genuinely scared of what was happening around him. They managed to shake off the "He'll be alright, he's Harry Potter" feeling that you took with you into the cinema. Harry and his chums are growing up now. The Weasley family seems to be working for Clairol, or one of the other hair care products. They seem to have longer and more interesting hair than any of the girls, which is strange (I wonder why I always end up talking about hairstyles in my blogs about movies, something deep going on there no doubt). Girls and boys seem to be discovering each other, Harry had a few genuinely excruciating moments with a girl he fancied, so that part of the plot was realistic enough.
Anyhow, the baddies are bigger and badder, and doing rather well by all accounts. If I was a betting man I'd be tempted to put a couple of quid down on the big V to either win or place. The film was very long, presumably because the book was very long. I can appreciate the need to put all the book stuff into the film, but it did seem to sag a bit in the middle, with a rather pointless (to my mind at least) dinner and dance. And the Tri-Wizards Tournament seemed to take longer to complete than an english cricket match. And four wizards took part, which kind of goes against the grain.
The best compliment I can pay the film is that if you like Harry Potter you will love it. If you don't this film is probably not going to convert you. But then you won't be there anyway.
