I got hold of a copy of Call of Duty for the XBOX 360 over the weekend. Number one son reckons that I shouldn't talk about games before I've completed them. That probably means that I'm only allowed to review Halo and Halo 2. However, I have played COD a bit and so I do feel slightly qualified to say some things, so here goes.
The game starts nicely, with a very atmospheric intro and some impressive (if a bit jerky) animation from the game engine driven intro. Then it is on with the missions, starting with Russia. Number one son rather sniffily says that it is just another World War 2 shooter (him having seen loads on the PC) but I reckon it is the best console based wargame ever. There is just loads of stuff going on around you, cries of comrades and germans, lots of whizzing and banging and you really do feel part of a team. The things you need to do vary quite a bit, and there are numerous ways of doing each one. The arenas are large and detailed, and you are led very effectively through them. Graphics are great and very sharp, I especially like the smoke effects.
Things are going along nicely, and I reckon that once I complete it (and I will complete it) I will enjoy revisiting the levels again. A good one to get I reckon.
