I've been doing more online racing with Project Gotham Racing on the XBOX 360. From a technical point of view the experience is very good, but from a human one it frequently stinks. Now, I recognise that I am not a very good driver (I have to use the "in car" view which makes it much harder to race tactically) but the way in which the other players just tweak me into the wall as they go past, putting me in a situation from which recovery is impossible, is very annoying. I try quite hard to avoid hitting the other cars. I've actually been in car crashes and I know enough about what happens to regard them as a bad thing. But other folk don't have these sensibilties. So I frequently end up going from first to last as a result of being rammed. No fair.
I think the best way round this is to create an "Old Codger Racing Club". People like me (if there are any) can get together and race cars (inside view only please) and not worry too much about the outcome of the races or try to crash into each other. I think it might be fun. If you want to do some of this friendly racing, get in touch with "Rob the bloke" next time you are on XBOX live.
