My office PC has failed. I thought it was the hard disk but it seems to be an "everything" kind of fault. I was trying to rebuild Windows XP on a replacement hard disk when it failed saying that some of the files it had fetched off the DVD did not agree with themselves. Not good. I think that the hard drive controller on the motherboard may be on the turn. So of course, I did the most sensible thing that I could in the situation....embark on a rebuild of the partitions on my Tablet PC, so that if that failed I would lose everything. I think this is the computing equivalent of a trapeze artist requesting that the safety net be removed. The snag is, that I needed the extra space back so that I can transfer all my work over to my mobile machine and keep going.
The good news is that it all worked fine, otherwise you would not have a post from me now....
(actually, I'm not that daft - I did have backups of all the important files on another drive - but it did make an otherwise fairly quiet Monday morning a bit more exiting)
I'm now doing everything from the Tablet PC. So far things are going well, but I'm going to get the desktop repaired/replaced soon. It would be a terrible shame if I dropped it....
