We had a bunch of very enthusiastic students visit is today. All the way from Korea. They were all from Keimyung University, on their Mobile Animation and Sound Study Tour. They arrived at Hull after a 12 hour flight plus a journey up from London. But they were all wide awake when they got to us. In the afternoon I gave a talk on mobile device programming. Around a third of the audience were programmers, the rest were games/graphic designers and sound/music specialists.
It was very interesting to see the different sections of the audience react as I showed them how I program my Smartphone. Everyone was impressed with the SOTI remote display that I use. This let me show them the phone screen on my PC as I used the phone camera to take a picture of the audience. The programmers were impressed when I showed them how easy it is to attach code to menu buttons on the phone itself to open up the camera dialogue, and then put in breakpoints while the program is actually running. Then it was the turn of the games designers, who got very interested when I showed them how easy it is incorporate pictures of people and their surroundings into games. The music people woke up when I said that you could do the same with sound too. I hope it all made sense, it is always a bit tricky when you have to deal with a wide range of interests in the audience.
After the talks we went outside for some fresh air and a group photograph.
Actually, the students were most impressed with how tall I am. They all wanted to have their picture taken with me. Now I know a little bit about what it feels like to be royalty.
Anyway, after many photographs and smiles they went off for the rest of their trip.
