We Love Katamari - oh yes we do

Even though I've not got a 360 I'm still playing games. A couple of weeks ago I bought the PS2 game "We love Katamari". It is a Namco game where you roll a ball around a landscape picking things up that stick to the ball so that it gets so big that it makes the prince happy and he can use it as a new star in the sky. A fairly standard game form I'm sure you'll agree.

But it is ace. The whole thing is done with such an overblown style and general air of daftness that it totally blows you away. Ian came around last night and I showed him the game. After five minutes I asked him what he thought. He didn't reply. He was sitting back in his chair wearing the kind of expression you usually get in one of those flight simulator things when they pretend they are shooting you out of a canon or something. When he got back the power of speech the only word he could utter for a while was "What????".

At the moment we've only played the intro levels, where you pick up small things. Later on I'm told that you can roll the ball around cities and pick up buildings and stuff, which I'm really looking forward to. If you are after a completely novel experience, or want to shatter someones ideas about what video games are, then take a look.

Rob, you are spot on on your comment "want to shatter someones ideas about what video games are, then take a look." I went to check out the game web site and I must admit I was actually quite interested to play this game.

This is coming from someone who plays less than 1 PC/console game a year.

I think I need to re-discover my childhood. I don't play enough computer/video games,

Bernard
