The Decline of the PC Gamer?

I was out shopping yesterday for a copy of Unreal Tournament for the Hull Comsoc Fragfest when I noticed something which is kind of interesting. I think that the PC game scene might be shrinking a bit. All the game shops that I went in, which used to have rows upon rows of PC games, are relegating them to the slightly out of sight areas. And they seem to be a bit smaller too.

I can kind of understand why this might be the case, in that there are now so many different platforms (XBOX, Playstation, Playstation Portable, Gamecube, DS, Gameboy, XBOX 360 etc etc) that they might be having space finding room for everything, Perhaps it is because keeping up with the PC hardware to play these mega wonderful games is too expensive, perhaps folks are finding that they can get performance from things like the XBOX 360 which is as good as (or even better than) their PC. But it is interesting, but I'm not sure what it means for the future of gaming.
