CD/DVD Sales figures for 2003

MMIS (Magnetic Media Information Services) has published preliminary sales figures for various media types sold in 2003 including recordable CD/DVDs....

CD-R production increased by an impressive 17 percent, to 7,150 million discs.
DVD-R shipments of about 375 million discs.

Now the RIAA can go say that 50% of CDRs burnt contain stolen (copied or downloaded) music and that artists have lost 7m x $ 15 each = $ 10 billion dollars

Of course that would be ignorant to the fact that online music stores are exlpoding and places like iTunes have sold MILLIONS of songs already, but that would be so classic RIAA tactics for ya. Release figures, ignore things that disprove or shrink the figures and ask for 4x as much as they claimed their artists lost, then when they get the money, don't give a penny to the artists.
