When choosing a company to work for....

When I was chit-chatting with our network admin he mentioned how his brother at Xerox is only one of two of the last developers left after the axe was swung and dozens of developers lost their jobs to outsourcing.  And the though that has popped in my head many times is when it comes to a company to work for, the best answer is, the less developers the better.

We all know that there has been a huge trend over the past few years to move developement overseas, especially to India.  The mistake a developer makes is working for a company where doing such looks like a huge cost saving measure.  When you work for a place that has an entire team of developers (a dozen or so) we're talking about a siginificant savings for the company to fire their US developers and outsource developement.

I've been working at a large company (3,000 employees) but they have only 1 or 2 developers.  This way, I get the benefits of getting all the credit after completeing a successfull project, keep my job security because who else is going to support such projects if I wasn't employed, and being a single developer, it's not worth outsourcing.

Not to mention I'd hate to work for a company where there are a dozen developers that do exactly what I do as I never want my skills to be looked at as "a dime a dozen".
