Windows Longhorn on a Laptop

    Windows Longhorn on a Laptop
It seems people are so eager for Windows 2007, err I meant Longhorn that they forget about the hardware requirements.  Fortunately they're not all that bad as you can get a DX9 video card now-a-days for a mere $99.

But what nobody talks about is that we obviously need to run Longhorn on a laptop.  Unfortunately at this moment there are no DX9 video cards for laptops but we'll be seeing them before xmas this year (2004) so I'm not worried in the least.  But what needs to happen is a battery innovation.  A 3d GUI requires lots of watts and today's laptop batteries just suck.  Even with Intel's Centrino based CPUs you only get 3 or 4 hrs out of a double battery system.  Fortunately there are a couple companies getting fuel cells down to a reasonable size and there have been some laptops "in the labs" running fuel cells.  I also recall a recent discovery that allowed fuel cells to give around 35% more power from the same size which would allow them to be reduced in size and weight.

I don't know about you but I can't wait for 20hr laptops that weight only a couple pounds more than the laptops we have now.  (Heck you need tho exercise anyways, you lazy nerds!)
