1 Fundimental Reason Why FireFox will eventually be better than IE

1 Fundimental Reason Why FireFox will eventually be better than IE

Unless MS starts to think differently on how it approaches security (and major improvements have been made), I think they will soon be in serious competition against FireFox.

While FireFox adoption of 6% is a small part of the market, the fact it's gone from 0% to 6% in under a year is something to take note of as we have not leveled off by a long shot.  While it may or may not be true right now, in the long run I believe FireFox will be the most secure & bug free browser unless MS can adopt FireFox's very smart security policy, which is offering people cash for finding security holes.

While there are countless numbers of people looking for IE bugs, the group with the most free time to look for these bugs are the un-employeed teenagers.  Now here's a group whom a mere couple grand looks like a fortune, along being endless bragging rights among their tech friends.  I can vouch that I spend more time learning back as a teen that I ever did in my last 5 years as non tech things creep into your life (girls, parties, tv, social events, etc).  A high school teenager is a force to reckon with as they have an easy 70hrs available per week that older people often use on these other events.

Anybody who thinks the power of millions of teenage nerds isn't equal to the small amount of seasoned IT security professionals is drinking koolaid.  I would rather put my money in a bunch of teenage tech junkies than your average 35yr old IT guy (I'm getting close to becomming one myself).  Especially considering the more I work in IT, the more I realized many unqualified or bare-qualified people work in IT.

What FireFox has done is both a solid PR move, along with a solid security plan.  They've basically hired X million teenagers to find security holes, and they only have to pay them if they actually find a hole.  I mean how can you beat that?

PS: To date, FireFox has paid out for 5 different security holes found.

An interesting idea. Finding bugs is how Bill Gates made money to pay for computer time while he was in high school. I think that finding bugs in FireFox will get harder as they find and fix the current ones. As you are probably aware the rate of finding bugs in FireFox has been higher than in IE. Frankly I think that will continue into the next decade. I think there are just more to find. That is what scares me about FireFox a lot more than any increased market share over IE.
