The "Receive Emails" options in my profile sometimes resets to "Yes" from time to time.  As you can guess, this is pretty annoying; I'd like to keep it at "No" to prevent my inbox from being spammed by "new content" emails.  ;-)

The "Receive Emails" option is a bit misleading. I left it enabled because I thought it was it was to enable private message feature (from theSpoke v1.0).

Just like Mark, I am now receving an avalanche of emails. To reduce the amount of emails I am receiving, I tried the email subscription page (http://thespoke.net/blogs/xxxxx/emailsubscriptions.aspx) to select the "I am not subscribe to this blog" to turn off the new email notification option.

But this option at the same time, unsubscribe me from their blogs. That's not what I want.

End of the day, I still want to subscribe to the blog but I do not want to receive email notifications when they post a new entry.

Make sense? Or does anyone here thinks it defeats the purpose of subscription? For me subscribing to someone's blog serves more as a bookmark feature.

Another issue with the current default email notification ("Send me emails for new posts, articles and comments.") is that it reduces the need for the subscriber of a particular blog to login to theSpoke.Unless I really want to post a comment to an entry, I don't need to visit the site to read blogs since everything will be delivered in the mail. Which some people would see as an attractive option because there is no need to endure the login in process anymore (unless the cookies option has been enabled) useful for people logging in to public terminals (like in Internet cafes).

By reducing the occurances of people logging into theSpoke, I think it will have reduce the community spirit we have previously generated.

IMHO

Agreed! Of all the features of theSpoke that aren't working properly, subscription is, to me, the most puzzling. I begin to wonder if the developers were paying attention to what we all used our subscribed list for. As you describe, it is a "bookmark" system and I don't recall any requests for it to be much more than that. I want to go to my blog, look at my list and see who, on that list, has updated their blog recently and go read those blogs. Something that was not broken has been fixed right out of existence. I miss this feature and hope it gets fixed soon.

At first, I thought the email notifications for new blog content were connected to the "Remember Me" checkbox at the bottom of a person's comment post...then again, it rather is linked to blogs I subscribed to...

For now, I sort of find getting mail about new content posted useful since the Blogs I Read portion of the blog site is still missing...however I do agree that it spams in the way that even comments added have notifications sent...

I really don't think that spamming users with email is the way to keep them updated with their friends' blogs; a "Friends" page similar to what LiveJournal users get would be a better solution, IMO.  Also, sending emails further taxes the server/s, which also contributes to the (worsening) slowdown of theSpoke.

I am also receiving email notifications for new forum replies, which I don't know how to turn off....

Edit: I tried to leave the check at the bottom of the editor checked and then try to uncheck by editing the post. But the check is still there when I try to edit. Does this mean if I forgot to uncheck it when I first made the post, I won't be able to turn it off?
