I'm wondering if it will be plagued by the same problems as the Nano! I had an order for one placed, but wait time was apparently 2 months (estimated) and so cancelled. The prospect of scratched and broken screens didn't exactly help either!

I think the new iPod is another paperweigh-after-battery-is-damaged or an ecological waste. Imagine investing on such a thing and then afterwards, you cannot replace batteries on your own, etc.

New iPod looks great, new gear for people to play with. It's funny that you mention the battery lifetime of the iPods. I worked at the only Apple Service Provider in our city, the worst problem with them was the hard drives breaking. At least the nano won't have this problem as it using flash.

Apple's market seems to be a lot like the market for cell phones. Most people don't use old phones (~3 years). Since the iPod has only been popular for the last 2 years the first buyers of iPods will only just start to run into these battery issues.

I actually got one off of eBay, which seems silly now, but I was on an eBay kick since I had gotten Nabit and just figured I'd get it from there. Anyway, I love mine. It sucks that not all the videos play and I have to convert them to get them to play, but I didn't get it for that anyway so it's not that big of a deal. I love having so much space for all my music. Now I just need new headphones so people don't see the white and try and steal it. That's the only thing I'm scared of.

... new Ipod video... how long does that battery last?  2 hours for the 30 gig? 3 for the 60?  hmm.. not worth it.  I'll waiting for the 6G "true video" ipod.  It's almost been confirmed that it'll have a 4" widescreen and no more click wheel, but rather a touchscreen.  if they make an 80 or 100 gig variant, sell it for 500 (what the original 4G 60 gig sold for), I'd buy it in a jiffy.

iPod is nothing compared with Creative Zen Vison. Look at their battery life and screen and other functions except the fact that Zen's a bit thicker.

Well, I actually didn't buy my iPod video. Got it as a present and I have to say I'm happy with it, not just because I got it for free, but because it is one hell of a gadget. It's got all my music on the go, when I want it, plus, it's a pretty handy storage for anything digital that you need. It is pricey, but hey, if you've got money to burn, might as well get it.
