I always see on forums that they have so called flamewars about what is better. Ati or nVidia. Intel or AMD. etc.

So, I ask you now. What is your opinion? What do you think?

As I read many articles and comparisons, I saw that many times nVidia new gc (graphic card) is strugling with ATIs previous gc. For example nVidias 7800 (gl or glx or whatsoever) was slightly better in some scenarios while comparing it to ATIs previous X800 xl (i think it's xl, dunno). And now when ATI developed a new serie it's like he is playing with nVidia , cause he didn't do anything much to the cards , ATI just put some extras on it and he's again at the top. I ask myself if there is marketing behind this (of course it is :)  Because I know that both , ATI as nVidia , can offer more and make much better gc as they are on the market now.

Now speak up! :P

Hello!

I have a GF FX5200 from Inno3D and i'm pretty content with it even if the latest games don't agree with that :D
I have lots of friends that spend lots of money buying better and better cards but for what? For better image quality for greater XxAA(Anti Aliasing) and YxAF(Anisotropic Filtering)!
Why does ATI and nVidia do these things, with 10 versions of the same GPU, why don't they do something everybody can buy and never change for a long time!
My opinion is because they wouldn't get as much money as they do by doing what they do currently, i think they have some kind of agreement so both can suck as much money as they can from every customer forever :D
What do you guys think about what i've said?

Argument to buy ATI cards:
nVidia have not released drivers that fully support next-gen Windows' LDDM (Longhorn Display Driver Model) yet.

Argument to buy nVidia cards (in the near future):
They are now working on giving their new series of GPUs support for the v4 of pixel shaders.

And, of course, the choose of one of the brands depends on what do you want to do with this card. If you're going to use it for development of 3D software then nVidia cards are more preferrable (if you're not using some ATI's hardware specifics :).
But if you want to use it for gaming then it doesn't matter so much which videocard to buy - the modern cards supported by entertainment software vendors have almost no differencies on the user's look...

You must consider , that ATI works on drivers for Linux now! The drivers are getting better and better. I think here is also the key for the future :P

Currently, from the reviews i have seen in the PC magazines, it would appear that nVidia has the 'best' single card available. the 7800GTX (i think). even though it is A$ 1000.

But, ATI is/has develop the "CrossFire" which has the ability of SLi but the cards don't have to be the same. therefore if you want to upgrade to dual nVidia cards you have to buy two new ones, where as with ATI you just team up what you have with the CrossFire.

Either wayas long as you go by the performance stats of the cards, i hate people who say "i have a nVidia card and all nVidia cards are better than ATI ones" or vice versa. just because it has a sticker of one brand doesn't make it better!

Hey everyone.

I've been observing this 'batttle' between these two video card manufacturers for several years. It appears that every year, two and more cards get realeased to the public in which it has higher processing power and better quality of graphics, furthermore newer features get added continously. In addition the price keeps rising. But the main thing is that it doesn't matter what card you choose, if they are in competition together, the quality you are goin to get are equivalent.

The FPS may vary once and a while slightly but generally, the cards are the same. Yeah sure, superficially they may have their differences i.e different looking coolers or slightly different heat emination temperatures, but their properties are the same.

As of right now, Nvidia has the edge in terms of how good a game can look (maximium resolution and eye candy) and how fast it can play (pure fps performance).  Their top of the line card, the 7900GTX, can be configured in either a single, dual, or quad format, allowing for resolutions of up to 2560x1600 with all visual effects enabled.  With a quad gpu solution, you can even enable "hidden" effects such as the 32xAA and 16xAF.  Now, if ATI can come up with something as good as a quad gpu solution that nvidia has then that'll be great, but as of right now, for those with unlimited money, 4 7900GTXs is as high as you can go.

Now, ATIs crossfire is a great counter to SLI, except for the fact that you need BOTH, crossfire enabled videocards AND motherboard.  This leads to a very expensive upgrade for a performace upgrade that, in my opinion, isn't worth it.

Finally, single card against single card (Nvidia's 7900GTX and ATI's Radeon X1900 XTX), it really depends on the game.  Some games are coded well for nvidia while other work better on ati cards.  All in all, it's too close to measure (within 2-5fps) between these two top of the line cards.
