We just finished the Imagine Cup 06 for the category Software Design, and here is some comments about the judging for that day:

- One of the 5 judges invited, is from the advisory panel of the university the Champion was from

- And the same university got Champion for the last year too.

What do you guys think? This could create bias within the results. Could this have happened? What do you think?

Personally, I would say that Microsoft local subsidary shouldn't invited such person to be the judge.

Post your thoughts here. Note: No flaming, constructive thoughts please. :)

Its quite bias in my opinion. They shouldn't have got someone from that uni, really... Even though its just advisory.

I think this will make the competition become unfair.

I think they could be a bit more careful who they put in to the panel for judging as people will consider them biassed, regardless of whether it's true or false. The question that is quickly raised is who was in the panel and who should've been placed in the panel instead of that specific judge. Remember that each judge usually looks at a specific part of the project (A CEO will be more likely to look at the dollar signs in the eyes than the technology) and this specific judge may have been mostly interested in the technology as how advanced it all is.
