Hi all,

With the world finals only a couple of days away, I can imagine you all have loads of questions concerning the challenge in India. Unfortunately I can't give away any details on the project itself or on the gear you're going to be using. But you can be sure, there will be some eXL1lent equipment waiting for you in India!

Also, feel free to bring any additional hardware (local keyboards, drawing tablets, etc.) and once you have the right to do so, music, soundFX, plugins, etc.

See you soon,

Filip

I just wanted to confirm the additional music thing - the last two years we were only allowed to pull from the stock collection, even if we had rights to other things. So we CAN bring copyrighted music that we've secured the rights to, correct?

Also, who should I talk to about the screening of our qualifying films? Ours is in high hefinition, and I'd really rather screen it that way (what better way to show off the excellent Windows Media HD codec? ;-)   Is there someone I can talk to to make sure that facilities will be available for screening from an HD WMV instead of an SD DVD?

Yeah I was wondering about the sceening format as well. Last year they didn't use SD DVD's to present the films, they just used the .wmv's that we submitted, or .avi's if you thought to bring one. I'm also curious if the presentation format will be in 4:3 or 16:9, our film was recorded in 16:9 natively, and I need to know if I should make a 4:3 version to bring with me, so our film is not stretched when a projector tries to change our aspect ratio.

So Filip, in what format do we need to bring our films?

Nick, do you know what kind of projector is needed to play HD WMV's? Do they use a true HD Video Projector running at something like 1080i or 720p? Or do they just play it from a computer into a standard computer projector running at 1280X1024 at 60Hz or something?

By the way, I made a new website for a blog for while I'm in India, you can find it at www.scottinindia.com

I'm expecting just a 4:3 or 16:9 data projector projecting a windows desktop with the wmv playing back in Media Player fullscreened.

Some of us will have blogs up too, I'll post links to them on paperheartfilm.com later today.

It's too bad we didn't get a chance to get together beforehand Scott... oh well. Have you guys booked any of your travel yet or are you just going to do that in the first week?

Cheers
Nick

No, we haven't booked anything yet. We have a list of ideas/places but no specifics, we figured we would talk to your team and decide there how to go about the next couple of weeks.

Nick,
Well we are actually about to leave for the airport in the next hour or so. What I'm doing is buring a 4:3 SD DVD version formated for PAL and one for NTSC. AVI's with DV-PAL and DV/DVCAM-NTSC formats. And the highest quality standard def WMV I can get.

I'm not bringing any 16:9 formats, I don't think it would make sense to, since all of the media projectors are going to be 4:3 and I will assume that they will be using the same projectors for both the software and technology presentations and short film presentations. And some of the other films may be in 4:3 so I think it would just make sense. And I don't want to have to try to make a correct 4:3 version from my native 16:9 version, I don't know what programs they will be providing us so I would hate to have to recompress and letterbox my film on a system that may not be up to spec or that I am not familiar with, or that may not have all of the options to output the highest quality version of our film.

That should cover all the bases. I would reccomend you at least get those versions, and then bring along any HD versions just in case.

Oh and I'm formating all of the audio in Stereo, 48kHz, with no compression.
